Turn the key to the off position and LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION! Open the drivers door. The car should beep 3 times to warn you the key is still in the ignition.
Leave it alone for 5 minutes (sleep mode). Now disconnect the battery, both leads and hold the leads together for a further 5 minutes.
